How to Submit Your Abstract

Guidelines

As an energy expert, you have the opportunity to join over 100 technical speakers addressing the industry’s most topical issues and presenting technological advances to industry peers from around the world. The ADIPEC Downstream Technical Conference is the place to share best practices with your industry colleagues and network with industry peers and potential clients.

Abstract submissions

  • Abstracts should include a maximum of 450 words and must be written in English.
  • It is crucial for the abstract submission to adhere to the structured format outlined.
  • You must select from the 11 categories provided to best describe your abstract.
  • Prior to abstract submissions your management clearance must be obtained. Any issues concerning clearance should be outlined when the abstract is submitted.
  • Multiple abstracts can be submitted. However, each submission must be unique and should not be submitted under more than one category.

Abstract Outline

Authors must clearly state the purpose and structure of their abstract as outlined below:

  • Objective of the paper – states what the study or project aims to achieve or the problem it addresses. (30 words)
  • Strong introduction – answers the questions what and why. (60 words)
  • Methodology – describes how the study was conducted. (60 words)
  • Key findings – provides detailed results, including data points, trends, or insights derived from experiments, simulations, or case studies. (200 words)
  • Significance and conclusion – offers a concise summary of the key results and their broader importance. (100 words)

Scoring Criteria

  • Relevance to the conference theme - the paper should address key industry challenges, advancements, or emerging trends.
  • Clarity and conciseness - a well-structured, clearly written abstract that effectively communicates objectives, methodology, and findings.
  • Innovation and originality - the work should introduce new insights, approaches, or technologies rather than restating existing knowledge.
  • Technical quality - the research should be methodologically sound, supported by robust data, case studies, simulations, or experimental results.

No, there is no fee for submitting an abstract. The submission process is completely free.

Can I submit multiple abstracts?

Yes, you can submit multiple abstracts. However, each submission must be unique and should not be submitted under more than one category.

A strong technical paper aligns with industry-relevant topics and demonstrates originality, technical depth, and practical impact. It should clearly define the objective, outline the methodology, present key findings, and highlight the significance and impact of the work.

    Papers should present robust methodologies, experiments, or data analysis.

    Papers should showcase real-world applications of theories or innovations. Case studies and project reviews should highlight measurable impacts on performance, cost-efficiency, or sustainability.

  5. Cross-disciplinary approaches
    Submissions that integrate concepts from multiple disciplines are encouraged, as they can provide broader insights and solutions to industry challenges.

  6. Policy and regulatory considerations
    We encourage papers that explore policy frameworks, regulatory developments, and compliance strategies relevant to the downstream sector.

  7. Readability and accessibility
    Papers should be well-structured and clearly written, with defined objectives and organised content. The use of visual aids (charts, diagrams, and graphs) is encouraged to enhance understanding and engagement.

What happens after submission?

After submission, the abstract undergoes a review process by the downstream technical committee. Abstracts are evaluated based on specific criteria, which form the basis for selecting papers.

Do I have to submit a white paper if my abstract is selected?

No, the Downstream Technical Conference does not publish white papers. If your abstract is selected, you are only required to prepare a technical presentation in PowerPoint, following a format that will be provided.
