The Methane Abatement Challenge is an exciting opportunity for high school students to showcase their innovative ideas to reduce methane emissions, empowering them to actively participate in climate action and contribute to a sustainable future.
Aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the competition is open to students from schools across the UAE. After a robust judging process, finalists will present their solutions at ADIPEC on 4 November.
Students are encouraged to get out of their comfort zones, leverage their critical thinking skills, engage with their communities and embrace their social and environmental responsibilities.
The Methane Abatement Challenge for Youth at ADIPEC, themed ‘The Essential Fall of Methane Emissions,’ encourages young minds to propose innovative solutions to reduce methane emissions. This competition aims to raise awareness among youth about the climate crisis and energy transition. Participants will compete in three main categories:
Solutions to reduce methane emissions from burning natural gas during oil extraction.
Innovations to minimize the release of methane directly into the atmosphere during industrial processes.
Strategies to detect and prevent unintended methane leaks from equipment and infrastructure.
It’s always a pleasure to attend this remarkable annual event, which highlights the vital role of the UAE and its people in the energy sector. I appreciate the opportunity to be here and to see ADNOC's commitment to the youth. It’s inspiring to witness how they are showcasing the exciting opportunities available in the energy industry, encouraging young people to pursue careers in this field and shape the future of energy.

The future leaders are the wealth of the nation. It’s not the oil, it’s not the gas, it’s the human capital. We are bidding on them to be positive contributors to solving future energy problems. With them the idea starts and… from them the solution will come.
