dmg events builds on the legacy of COP28 while preparing for COP29

The year 2024 is set to be an important one in energy, with countries and industries working to advance the global energy transition and meet the targets of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) ahead of COP29, taking place in Azerbaijan in November.

dmg events, as one of the world’s leading exhibition companies, with a vast portfolio of over 95 events attracting over 1 million attendees from around the world, has been a proud supporter of the global transformation towards a more sustainable economic system. Last year, we designed our flagship event ADIPEC 2023 to have a comprehensive conference and exhibition programme that would bring together the wider energy industry, showcase progress towards decarbonisation, and help the industry demonstrate its commitment to climate action ahead of COP28, which took place in Dubai just seven weeks after our event’s completion.

Under ADIPEC 2023’s overarching theme of ‘Decarbonising. Faster. Together.’, we emphasised including and uplifting the Global South, addressing the challenges and gaps in climate finance and investment, and highlighting the promising clean-tech innovations that can help decarbonise energy. This enabled ADIPEC to act as a crucial forum for the entire energy value chain to address the most pressing issues around the security, accessibility, equitability, affordability and sustainability of energy.

With COP28’s UAE Consensus now providing an impetus for the world’s efforts to transition away from fossil fuels, dmg events is looking at how its energy events can support the legacy of COP28 and some of the critical conversations it hosted. COP28’s adoption of the fund for loss and damage, delivery of the Just Transition Work Programme and the Migration Work Programme, as well as the establishment of the Youth Climate Champion and the completion of technical negotiations on the technology implementation programme, have made meaningful progress in the global energy transition and will inform the direction of our global energy events programme going forward.

While we finalise the agenda for ADIPEC 2024 to advance industry needs and help address key challenges ahead of the next COP, we are also focusing strongly on supporting a sustainable energy future by aligning all of our 40+ energy-related conferences and exhibitions around the world with the world’s energy and climate goals. Our energy events, which take place across Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Europe, cover energy from both a micro and macro level, with some events focusing on specific countries and industries, while others span geographies and value chains. This gives dmg events the unique opportunity to achieve a global overview of the unique challenges and opportunities of the energy transition, while also helping to accelerate decarbonisation efforts across sectors and geographies, enabling us to mobilise the collective power of diverse perspectives, innovative thinking, and collaborative action to reimagine the world’s energy landscape.

I look forward to dmg events continuing efforts to support global industry in making 2024 a year of cooperation, alignment, and progress towards our global energy transition goals.  By bringing together partners across all sectors, dmg events will help accelerate a sustainable future and drive progress that delivers a more resilient world for people and the planet.
