Jeremy Crane has been leading the global energy transition for over 20 years. He established Yellow Door Energy in 2015 to combine his energy expertise with his passion for supporting businesses in emerging markets. He is currently helping companies reduce their energy costs, secure their energy supply whilst lowering their environmental footprint.

Under Jeremy’s leadership, Yellow Door Energy rapidly became the leading distributed solar developer, with over 240 megawatts of awarded solar projects in the Middle East and Africa. The company’s shareholders are Actis, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Mitsui & Co., Ltd., and APICORP.

Jeremy’s passion for renewable energy was fueled by his experience working on wind farms and power plants in the United States and Central America. He further honed his solar experience by starting a business that developed $40 million worth of rooftop solar projects in Canada. He also developed, financed and commissioned $250 million of utility-scale solar in Europe and Asia for a private equity company.

As an industry thought leader, Jeremy regularly speaks at conferences and leading media outlets to raise the profile of the clean energy industry and share in-depth renewable energy insights. He has also won numerous industry awards, including the prestigious Leadership Achievement in Solar in 2023 from the Middle East Solar Industry Association (MESIA).

Jeremy holds an MBA from INSEAD in France and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from University of Waterloo in Canada.

The promise of wind and solar energy in the climate change journey

Wind and solar energy hold immense promise to diversify the world’s energy mix and contribute to the net-zero transition. The costs of wind and solar power have dropped dramatically in recent years, making them increasingly cost-competitive with traditional fuels. Continued innovation, supportive policies, and scale-up of renewable energy deployment will be key to realising this potential and transitioning to a sustainable, zero-emissions energy future. However, challenges such as the intermittent nature of wind and solar power, significant upfront investment requirements, energy storage solutions and grid transmission upgrades must be addressed.

Attendee insights:

Understand the importance of wind and solar energy as clean energy sources with the capacity to mitigate climate change and provide affordable, reliable clean power.
