Director – Energy Plus Group
Société Générale
Sukh is the regional head of energy project financing and advisory for Société Générale based in Dubai. With over 15 years’ experience in London covering Europe, Middle East and Africa, Sukh has recently moved to UAE to specifically focus on activities in the GCC and Egypt. His career has allowed him to follow the evolution of energy transition financing; from offshore wind projects in the early 2010s to complex green hydrogen projects in the GCC more recently. Sukh’s banking pedigree is underpinned by roles at leading project finance banks including Société Générale, MUFG and Standard Chartered. He holds a Masters degree in Financial Economics.
The global energy transition is estimated to require US$5-7 trillion a year in funding through 2050, far beyond the means of public finance capabilities. With challenges that vary from region to region and across economic maturity, natural resources, and socioeconomic differences, questions must be addressed to ensure accelerated and equitable progress. How can governments, lenders, investors, and project developers work together to enact de-risking mechanisms and incentivise the private finance required to increase the bankability of critical new energy projects?
