CEO
Green Hydrogen International (GHI)
Brian Maxwell is the Founder and CEO of Green Hydrogen International (GHI), a world leader in low-cost green hydrogen development. He is a trained geologist with 15 years’ experience as a successful renewable energy entrepreneur. Realizing the critical importance of salt-cavern storage for reducing the cost of green hydrogen production, Brian led GHI’s successful acquisition of a global portfolio of strategic storage-grade salt rights and is now developing gigawatt-scale green hydrogen projects around these assets. GHI’s flagship development is the first-mover Hydrogen City Project in South Texas. Prior to founding GHI, Brian was Founder and Managing Partner of EastEdge Energy, a Japanese solar development company, and NowSolar Inc, an independent Canadian solar developer. He holds a BSc (Honors) in Geology from Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada.
High initial costs, scaling complexities, and fluctuating policy support make the financial landscape for green hydrogen projects challenging. For project developers, managing these factors involves not only innovative approaches to reduce production costs but also active engagement with governments to secure consistent and supportive policy frameworks. Additionally, securing early and reliable off-takers through strategic partnerships is crucial to justify the heavy upfront investments, ensuring that projects can transition from ambitious blueprints to operational realities. This pragmatic approach is essential for harnessing hydrogen's potential as a cornerstone of a low-carbon future.
