Under his leadership, Masdar has developed into one of the world’s fastest growing renewable energy companies, having developed and partnered in projects in more than 40 countries across six continents, with a clear mandate to increase its renewable energy portfolio capacity to 100GW by 2030. Masdar is also aiming to be a leading producer of green hydrogen by the same year. Mr. Al Ramahi first joined Masdar in 2008 and has held senior leadership positions in the company for nearly a decade and a half, serving as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer prior to his appointment as CEO in 2016. With a career spanning more than three decades in the energy sector, he brings significant financial acumen to the company, as well as considerable experience in internal audit and risk management. In addition to his role as CEO, Mr. Al Ramahi holds a number of prominent board positions. He is Chairman of the Masdar Executive Committee, Vice-Chair of the Global Council on Sustainable Development Goals and serves on the Board of Directors for Emirates Waste to Energy Company, and Shuaa Energy 2 PSC, the company developing phase 3 of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai. A natural collaborator, Mr. Al Ramahi is also an active member of several groups dedicated to facilitating strong international cooperation in the fields of business and sustainability. These include the CCI France, Australian Business Group, the US-UAE Business Council, and the Sustainable Markets Initiative. Mr. Al Ramahi was awarded the Order of National Merit by H.E. Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic of France, for his commitment to the UAE-France bilateral relationship. He has also been awarded the “Dustlik” Order of Friendship by H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, for strengthening cooperation between the UAE and Uzbekistan. He holds an Honorary Fellowship in the Energy Institute and has been named CEO of the Year 2023 by S&P Global Platts, among various other international accolades.

Pioneering growth: how to supercharge the global growth of renewables

With the world committing to tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030 as part of the historic UAE Consensus achieved at COP28, renewable energy is being adopted at a record rate. However, while achieving this goal remains within reach, it will require a global effort to help reach it.

This Energy Talk will explore how major renewable energy players like Masdar are supercharging the global growth of renewables to achieve net-zero, and what more needs to be done to get there.
